A Studio Collection

Jonathan Farningham

A Studio Collection showcases the work of Jonathan Farningham, an artist based in Essex, with a practice centred around portraiture and the human figure. He has previously exhibited with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters 2019, 2018; the New English Art Club 2018, 2017; and the Scottish Portrait Awards 2019 and 2018.

Blanco Gallery is delighted to present this exhibition curated by Adela Blanco. This selection of portraits reflects the versatility of the artist, the delicacy of his strokes and the strength to project the personality of each character.

The works show a variety of sitters as well as self-portraits, rendered in pencil, charcoal, pastel and oil paint. Jonathan’s practice is an ongoing pursuit of trying to immortalise people, whilst understanding the subtleties of the different mediums he uses in order to portray the visual world truthfully. He has always been fascinated by the complexities of the human form and how every face has its own turns and folds and an artist must observe with care to find the marks which present each turn honestly.
