Natalia Tomás
Natalia Tomás Segovia was born in Albacete (Spain) in 1985. She graduated in Fine Arts in the Faculty of San Carlos of Valencia. During her stay there, she obtained two Collaboration Scholarships in the Department of Drawing and in the Technical Advisory Teaching Council. Her formative years encompassed heterogeneous interests: from academic drawing and painting to contemporary art theory and the latest artistic trends or audiovisual production, combining it all with attending classes in Hispanic Philology at the University of Valencia for a couple of years.
After a few years of deep personal crisis and illness, she abandoned all artistic production. Although, as she likes to state, she understood the beauty, the misery, some relevant things about human nature and the true importance of Art, precisely far from the academic world and the faculties of Fine Arts, at the time when she worked as a funeral sales agent visiting hundreds of homes in small towns in the province of Valencia.
Back to painting, she returns to her first vocation, figurative art in the specialty of portrait. Her pictorial work is framed in Contemporary Realism. Influenced by the Spanish classics of the Baroque and the intercenturies, she uses traditional technical resources that puts at the service of a more contemporary perspective of representation, where a reflection of the everyday and a strong relationship with photography as a referential instrument is perceived.
Since her return, Natalia won the 1st prize of painting of the House of the student of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the Scholarship of the Barcelona Art Academy in the Modportrait convened by Artelibre and MEAM museum, selection of the XVII Ciudad de Martos international painting competition and has held various group and individual exhibitions, sharing her time between artistic production and teaching.
